Photos: The ABCDs are a helpful guide, but cannot always be relied upon completely. This melanoma had a depth of 0.4 mm. However, it was not quite 6mm in diameter, was fairly symmetrical, and had a reasonably regular border. The features which prompted excision were (1) the color, which was darker than his other lesions, and (2) the fact that the lesion had just appeared in the few months prior to this photo.
